The Assam government has strated preparation to tackle the coronavirus pandemic amid the festive season. In view of the Covid-19 situation, the government has issued guidelines for the Durga puja celebration. Talking to reporters, Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday told reporters that the government has not imposed any ban on Durga puja celebration but the organizers have to follow the guidelines.
The health minister further said that the puja committees will have to organize the puja in open pandals. No cultural events, competitions will be allowed. He also said that the members of the puja committee and the priests will have to mandatorily undergo the corona test. The committee members will also have to undergo the second test after idol immersion, Sarma said.
Talking about the norms to be followed, Sarma said that not more than 50 persons will be allowed in the puja pandals at any given time. It's the committee responsibility to ensure that the pilgrims should enter the pandal with proper hand sanitization. except woman, no pillion riders will be allowed during Durga Puja. There should be two gates in the enrty and exit in the pandals. The idol immersion procession is completely restricted. Sarma also said that the organizers should not allow any person to enter the Puja premises without mask or hand sanitization.
