New Delhi: A dense blanket of fog enveloped the national capital on Monday, severely impacting visibility, which dropped to zero in some areas. The prevailing cold wave conditions in North India have led to a dip in temperatures across states such as Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, and Delhi-NCR.

Numerous regions in North India are currently experiencing a cold wave, with Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh witnessing residents huddling around bonfires to combat the chilling temperatures. Dense fog has shrouded Moga in Punjab, and Srinagar recorded a temperature as low as -3°C.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that minimum temperatures range from 6-10°C in most parts of Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi, and West Uttar Pradesh, while they are between 11-12°C in Rajasthan, East Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and some parts of North Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand. The weather agency noted that the minimum temperature is normal or above normal in most parts of the country.

An IMD satellite image revealed the rapid spread of fog over Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and North Madhya Pradesh. In response to the intensified cold wave, residents in Delhi sought refuge in night shelters. The foggy conditions led to disruptions in flight operations at the Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi, affecting departures and arrivals.

On Monday, Delhi recorded a minimum temperature of 9.4 degrees Celsius, and visibility dropped to 125 meters in several parts of the city. The National Capital Region (NCR) also experienced low visibility during this period.

Despite the challenging weather conditions, people are urged to stay informed about their flight status and take necessary precautions due to the reduced visibility and colder temperatures.
