Owaisi Slams Karnataka CM Over Delay in Lifting Hijab Ban: Demands Immediate Action

Hyderabad: AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi has criticized CM Siddaramaiah's statement regarding the potential end of the ban on wearing hijab in Karnataka's schools and colleges. Siddaramaiah had stated, "The ban on hijab has not been lifted yet. Yesterday when someone asked me about lifting the ban, I said that the government is considering it."

In response, Asaduddin Owaisi remarked, "It has been 6 months since you came to power. What is there to consider whether Muslim girls have the right to education or not? Thanks to CM Siddaramaiah for maintaining the ban on hijab in the ‘secular’ Congress government. The Muslims who voted for you will definitely be happy."

Owaisi continued, "It has been six months, but this government is not able to issue orders… There will be no dress code, this is the order to be taken out, but even this is not being done by them. The Chief Minister says in a public meeting that whoever wants to wear it, should wear it, and while in front of the media, he says that it is still under consideration… We demand from the Chief Minister that you should immediately issue an order and end the ban on Hijab..."

Hijab was banned in Karnataka by the previous BJP government, causing significant controversy. The Congress government, which criticized the ban while in opposition, has not removed it since coming to power. Recent discussions hinted at the Congress government lifting the ban, but CM Siddaramaiah clarified that no such decision has been made yet.

Asaduddin Owaisi strongly criticized the government's stance, questioning the delay in issuing a straightforward order and expressing doubt about the government's thought process. He emphasized that only one order needs to be issued, but CM Siddaramaiah appears hesitant to do so.
