Pyongyang: North Korea has categorically denied any changes to its nuclear weapons program. North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un has said that his country's nuclear situation is now irreversible. The army is allowed to use nuclear weapons to protect the country at its discretion. Local media reported that North Korea has passed a law that empowers the military to launch a nuclear strike to defend the country.
Kim Jong-un said the law prohibits any talks on denuclearisation. The move comes as observers say North Korea is preparing to resume nuclear tests for the first time since 2017. In such a situation, the concern about international security increases even more. In 2018, then US President Donald Trump and other leaders held a historic summit with Kim Jong-un. However, even after this, the dictator flatly refused to develop nuclear weapons programs.
North Korea's official news agency KCNA published a report regarding the new law on Friday. North Korea's Parliament, the Supreme People's Assembly, on Thursday passed an amendment bill to the 2013 law to enact a new law on nuclear weapons, the report said. Kim said in a speech in parliament ''The utmost importance of legislating nuclear weapons policy is to draw an irreversible line so that even if our nuclear weapons are banned for 100 years, we will not stop our program.''
