Pyongyong: According to Russian state media, North Korea has offered the Kremlin 100,000 "volunteer" soldiers to help Russia defeat Ukraine in the current conflict.
According to the New York Post, Russian military analyst Igor Korotchenko said on Channel One Russia that there are rumours that 100,000 North Korean volunteers are ready to travel and join the fight.
According to the newspaper, Korotchenko praised the North Korean military's "rich experience with counter-battery warfare."
The US decision to donate 12 HIMARS (High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems) to Ukraine has increased the Russian military's emphasis on effective counter-battery warfare. According to a military expert who spoke with Insider's Sinéad Baker last month, the Ukraine's war efforts have been "massively improved" by the long-range, high-precision rockets.
Korotchenko continued by saying that Russia should accept the North Korean soldiers and their knowledge of counterbattery.
According to the New York Post, he said: "If North Korea expresses a desire to fulfil its international duty to combat Ukrainian fascism, we should let them."
With nearly 1.3 million active personnel, North Korea has the fourth-largest military in the world, according to the Council on Foreign Relations, based in New York. 600,000 more people serve as reserve soldiers.
Defense experts, however, claim that it uses outdated machinery and technology.
The North Korean government has also offered to send workers to help Russia rebuild the post-war Ukraine, according to the South Korean news source Daily NK.
According to Daily NK, which cited Russian sources, North Korea intends to send more than 1,000 workers to the Donbas region of eastern Ukraine if Russia prevails in the conflict.
According to a North Korean source cited in Daily NK, "considering that the war is not yet over, the government is planning to send workers at an appropriate time while monitoring the situation on the ground."
