Chennai: Makkal Nidhi Mayyam (MNM), a party of Kamal Haasan, who came into politics from acting, has filed a petition in the Madras High Court. In this petition, the party has demanded to direct the Election Commission to allow the election symbol of Battery Torch to it.

According to MNM, the party has filed a petition to allocate the battery flashlight election symbol to MNM and to stop MGR Makkal Katchi from using it. MNM has stated in its petition that as per the provisions of Election Sign Order, 1968, it is entitled to get this symbol for the 2021 Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly elections. Recently the Election Panel rejected MNM's request to allot it a battery flashlight symbol in the 2021 Tamil Nadu assembly elections. While in 2019, the MNM contested the 2019 Lok Sabha elections on this symbol, MGR Makkal Katchi was given the election symbol after that.

MNM has also been given the same election symbol in Puducherry. Now the MNM is resorting to the judiciary to get this election symbol. The party's founder Kamal Haasan will contest from Tamil Nadu.
