Patna: Bihar government employees may soon get good news. The Bihar government may consider raising the retirement age limit of government employees from 60 to 62 years. On the question of Member in the Legislative Council Kedar Pandey, acting Chairman Avadhesh Narayan Singh said that the state government should seriously think about it while bringing uniformity.

Replying to the same, Deputy CM-cum-Finance Minister Tarkishore Prasad said that the state government will look into this point by making a comparative study of the amount spent on salary and pension items. Bihar Legislative Council member Kedar Pandey had questioned that since 60 years of service to the government employees of Bihar, crores of rupees have to be spent every year as in-service benefits. In other states of the country, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Telangana and Madhya Pradesh, the retirement age limit of employees is 62 years. Why doesn't the government think about it?

On which the deputy CM had earlier said that there was no such matter under consideration but after the Chairman spoke, he said that the state government would look into it. Kedar Pandey further said that the health facilities in the state are continuously getting better. Due to this, now both the efficiency and the age limit of the state personnel should be increased. The CM has also spoken about the matter. With the increase in the retirement age, the large amount of the in-service benefit item is increasing to around Rs 150 to 200 crore every year. In 2018-19, the retirement benefit item was 1,602 crore while in 2019-20 it increased to 1,711 crores.
