On Saturday, 159 new cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) were reported in Assam. The number of patients in the state exceeded 1200. Of the 159 cases reported on Saturday, 20 patients are about to return by plane. State Health Minister Himant Biswa Sarma informed about this.

According to the Health Minister, 26 cases in Kokrajhar and Chirang, 20 in Hailakandi, 13 in Kamrup and Dibrugarh, 9 in Jorhat, 7 in Golaghat, 5 in Dhubri, 3 in Barpeta, 2 in Cachar and 1 in Bongaigaon. The minister said that 29 more people have been found infected with the coronavirus, but which districts they are from, it is yet to be ascertained. In a separate tweet, he said that during this time 38 patients have recovered from the disease and after being given negative tests twice, they were discharged from hospitals.

Of the total cases, four patients have died, while 163 have recovered and have been discharged from hospitals. On Friday, the maximum number of 177 cases were reported in a day. During this period, the number of infected crossed 1000. During the lockdown, cases have increased in the state after allowing the movement of road, rail and air communication. For the screening of all the people coming from outside the state, the government has implemented a policy of essentially keeping everyone in the institutional quarantine. So far, 1,01,257 sample tests have been conducted in the state.
