LUCKNOW: Akhilesh Yadav, the leader of the Samajwadi Party (SP), accused the BJP of giving step-motherly treatment to OBC communities and working with an anti-OBC mentality.

Speaking at a news conference here on Thursday, he said that the OBC reservation issue in the elections for urban local bodies was another another effort to keep weaker groups out of the corridors of power.

"It is an effort to seize the rights of less powerful groups. They are doing it to the OBC, and the Dalits will follow. The BJP will ensure that the subsequent generations continue to be held in slavery in order to keep certain segments of society in servitude " he said. He added that the BJP sought OBC and Dalit votes but denied them the opportunity to participate in decision-making.

The SP leader argued that a revolution was necessary to address the reserve issue and declared that, if necessary, his party would take the case to the Supreme Court.

He requested that a meeting of the state legislature be called so that the issue could be discussed.

In fact, he said, "the government is trying to avoid conducting municipal elections because it knows it will draw the wrath of the people."
