BHUBANESWAR: On October 10, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik of Odisha initiated the allocation of funds as part of the 'Ama Odisha Nabin Odisha' scheme, a strategic move that comes three months after receiving approval from the Odisha Cabinet. Often regarded as a pre-election initiative, this scheme is set to propel panchayat development within the state.

The state government has greenlit a significant allocation of Rs.148.50 crore to benefit 297 gram panchayats encompassing six Assembly constituencies in Keonjhar district. Additionally, a substantial sum of Rs.109 crore has been earmarked for the welfare of 218 gram panchayats in Bhadrak district.

This initiative aims to disburse a grand total of Rs.3,397 crore across 6,794 gram panchayats throughout the state. A staggering number of 90,723 projects will be undertaken, each with an entitlement of Rs.50 lakh. The project costs will span between Rs.2.5 lakh and Rs.10 lakh.

Chief Minister Patnaik elaborated on the purpose of the 'Ama Odisha Nabin Odisha' program, stating that it will play a pivotal role in preserving the rich Jagannath culture within villages. The development of temples and religious sites is of paramount importance, serving as a means to safeguard these crucial centers of culture and tradition for future generations.

Efforts are underway to enhance the digital infrastructure in every village, leading to the establishment of a science park, work hub, and essential banking facilities. Furthermore, primary schools are set to be incorporated into this comprehensive program, demonstrating a holistic approach to rural development.

It is worth noting that the disbursement of funds under the 'Ama Odisha Nabin Odisha' scheme and its subsequent implementation will undoubtedly sustain the development momentum leading up to both the upcoming Assembly and general elections scheduled for the following year.

In line with this, strategic measures will be adopted to bolster rural infrastructure, fostering accelerated growth. However, a substantial portion of the project proposals originating from the gram panchayats revolves around the development and enhancement of temples, underscoring their cultural significance and role in this ambitious scheme.
