The Odisha government on Sunday announced a fourteen days period lockdown from May 5 to May 19 to nip the spread of Covid-19 in the state. During the lockdown, people can walk within 500 metres to fetch essentials like vegetables and milk between 6 am and 12 am.

There will be no restrictions on movement of vehicles or persons providing healthcare and essential services. Besides, the weekend shutdown restrictions will remain in force in all urban areas on Saturdays and Sundays. During weekends, they will only be able to avail medical services.

The order further said that the lockdown and the weekend shutdown will not be applicable to any poll-related work, such as movement of personnel engaged in facilitating by-election to Pipili assembly constituency.

"The lockdown is primarily aimed at regulating movement of common people. No restriction has been imposed on goods carriers," the order said.
