Odisha: The Odisha government increased the maternity leave benefit for pregnant women working in aided colleges under the higher education department from 90 to 180 days on Tuesday.
All eligible women working in the higher education department are eligible for the leave benefit. The state administration has agreed to raise the upper age restriction for general category government employment applicants by six years, from 32 to 38 years.
Key features of The Maternity Benefit (Amendment) Act of 2017:- For women, Schedule Tribes, Schedule Castes, the socially and economically backward class, and physically challenged people, the upper age limit for such jobs has been lifted to 43 years.
The Maternity Benefit (Amendment) Act of 2017 extends maternity leave from 12 to 26 weeks. The six-week prenatal leave was also increased to eight weeks. A woman with two or more children, on the other hand, is entitled to 12 weeks of maternity leave. In this situation, the prenatal leave is still six weeks.
The Lok Sabha enacted the Maternity Benefit (Amendment) Act in March 2017.
