Odisha reports six fold increase in daily COVID 19 cases, experts warns of second wave

Odisha reported the daily test positivity rate (TPR)  less than 3% which clearly indicated the decline in new Covid-19 cases in the State, a district named Ganjam reported a six-fold rise in new infections during the last 24-hour period indicating the early signs of a second wave of the deadly pandemic in the district. 

Odisha's death count drops below 10 per day

Throughout the state, the fresh cases dropped by 10%, but in Ganjam 61 cases where reported whereas the previous day recorded 11 cases only. Since September 26, which reported 62 this new 61 count was the highest single-day spike in the district in the last 40 days. In the last 24 hours, 1201 fresh cases and 12 deaths were reported and total tally goes to 2,94,415 and the death toll to 1405. The only district to record over 100 cases is Khurda with 132 cases. Balasore and Jagatsinghpur, which faced by-polls on Tuesday, registered 48 and 73 cases
respectively.

The district seen high level hit of Covid-19 pandemic between mid-June and mid-September due to the return of migrant labourers,Ganjam district registered a total 1264 cases with an average of 32 cases a day between September 26 and October 2. Only 12 deaths reported during the period. The district administration instructed to continue ban on worship places, ban on temporary firecracker stalls. Public were instructed to avoid large crowds and observe green diwali.
