Kyiv: According to city officials, at least one person died and three were hurt in Russia's nighttime airstrike on Kyiv, which saw the defence systems shoot down at least 20 drones heading for the capital.

A 41-year-old man was killed in the Solomyanskyi district of the city by drone debris that fell on a petrol station, according to Vitali Klitschko, the mayor of Kiev. According to the military administration in Kiev, the attack on the city left at least three people hurt.

On the Telegram messaging channel, Klitschko stated that "air defence forces have already destroyed more than 20 UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicles) moving towards Kyiv." "However, a fresh wave of drones is approaching the capital. Keep to shelters.

According to Reuters witnesses, many people stood on their balconies during the air raid alerts that began to sound shortly after midnight on Sunday, with some yelling phrases like "Glory to air defence."

In the Solomyanskyi neighbourhood, west of the city, a seven-story non-residential building was struck by falling drone debris, according to Klitschko. This caused a fire to start. The area is a bustling rail and airport transportation hub.

According to Kyiv's military administration officials on Telegram, a fire started on the roof of a nine-story building in the Pecherskyi district, a historic area of the city, as a result of falling drone debris.
