Srinagar: On Friday, September 6, former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, a leader of the National Conference (NC), launched a strong critique against the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at the national level. Addressing a gathering in Ganderbal, Abdullah sharply criticized the Uttar Pradesh government led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. He condemned the frequent use of bulldozers on the properties of Muslims in Uttar Pradesh, calling it illegal following the Supreme Court’s recent acknowledgment of these actions. Abdullah highlighted concerns over the forced closure of mosques and madrasas, asserting that such acts are part of a broader strategy to defame Muslims under BJP orders.
Abdullah also expressed concerns about similar measures being attempted in Jammu and Kashmir, emphasizing the need to safeguard the region from forces aiming to impose such conditions locally. His comments came in response to allegations made by BJP leader Ram Madhav, who had claimed that the National Conference was receiving support from former terrorists. Abdullah challenged Madhav to provide evidence of these claims.
The Supreme Court of India had recently addressed the issue of bulldozer actions, stating that such demolitions cannot occur merely based on accusations without due legal process. The court underscored that even if someone is found guilty, demolishing their property must adhere to prescribed legal procedures. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath defended his government's actions as bold, while Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav mocked the Chief Minister’s stance, suggesting he should run for election using a bulldozer as his symbol. This led to a heated exchange between Adityanath and Yadav, with the Chief Minister comparing Yadav and his uncle Shivpal Singh Yadav to wolves.
