San Francisco: According to a media report quoting official sources, a test result of a wastewater sample from California revealed that the Omicron Covid-19 varient was present in the US state even before the WHO labelled it the newest 'Variant of Concern.'

The Omicron variety was discovered in a sample of wastewater collected in Merced County on November 25, according to a statement released by the California Department of Public Health to The Los Angeles Times.

According to The Los Angeles Times, the discovery confirms scientists' recent observations that Omicron was rapidly spreading around the world even before global health officials were aware of its existence. The variation was also found in wastewater samples taken in Sacramento County, according to the report. To track pandemic trends, researchers are sampling wastewater for Covid-19-related particles.

According to reports, scientists from Stanford University, the University of California (UC) Berkeley, the University of California (UC) Davis, the University of California (UC) Merced, the University of California (UC) San Diego, and the state Department of Public Health are monitoring wastewater for Covid samples.
