On Satya's 25th anniversary, Urmila Matondkar denounces favouritism and nepotism

On July 3, Satya celebrated its 25th anniversary since its debut. Ram Gopal Varma's groundbreaking movie featured pivotal performances from Urmila Matondkar, Manoj Bajpayee, Shefali Shah, and JD Chakravarthy. In a recent tweet, Urmila—who played the character of Vidya in the movie—shared character stills and discussed how she was passed over for awards that year.

On the 25th anniversary of Ram Gopal Varma's Satya, Urmila Matondkar, who had a significant role in the movie, tweeted that she hadn't received any nominations or awards for her portrayal of a "simple naive chawl girl" in the movie. At the time, Urmila was primarily recognised for her glitzy performances in movies like Rangeela, Judaai, and a few other productions.

The larger production companies and award bodies, according to Urmila, failed to recognise her performance in the movie due to favouritism and nepotism. "25yrs of Satya n of playing simple naive chawl girl Vidya at the peak of a scintillating glamorous career," she wrote on Twitter. But NO, what did that have to do with "acting"? As a result, there were no nominations or awards given. So please sit down and refrain from discussing favouritism and nepotism with me.

RGV claimed that Urmila's costumes in the movie cost ten times as much as the costumes for the entire cast combined during a recent discussion on Film Companion.  “I don’t know about the individual costs, but for sure Urmila’s was 10 times than all of them put together,” he said.

Because of favouritism and nepotism, according to Urmila, the larger production companies and award bodies failed to recognise her performance in the film. "25yrs of Satya and of playing simple naive chawl girl Vidya at the peak of a scintillating glamorous career," she tweeted. However, how did that relate to "acting"? As a result, no nominations or prizes were given. So, kindly take a seat and don't talk to me about favouritism or nepotism.

During a recent discussion on Film Companion, RGV asserted that Urmila's costumes cost ten times as much as the costumes for the entire cast combined.

A verbal spat between Urmila and the actor Kangana Ranaut also surfaced in 2020. Before making accusations against Bollywood, Urmila had asked Kangana to reflect on the drug culture in her native Himachal Pradesh. In response, Kangana tweeted, "Even Urmila, she is a soft porn star. It wouldn't be too difficult for me to get a ticket to run for office. I am aware of how overt it is. She isn't, however, well known for her acting. What is her reputation? to perform soft porn, correct? Why won't I receive a ticket if she does? Blackmail from 2018 was the last time viewers saw Urmila.
