Amidst opposition to sell the land of Bathinda Thermal Plant which was closed on Tuesday, Finance Minister Manpreet Badal said that the biggest industrial park of the state will be built on the land of the plant. Badal also called the plant a loss deal and a reason for pollution. On Monday, after the Cabinet approved the sale of plant land, AAP had tried to surround the house of the Finance Minister.

While addressing the press conference at his residence, the Finance Minister said that the Bathinda thermal plant was closed three years ago due to environmental, economic, and administrative reasons. After the efforts of the government, the economic highs of South Punjab will touch. Inviting companies from China to invest in the new industrial park of Bathinda, the finance minister said that Bathinda will emerge as a new industrial hub.

The city of Bathinda will get 164 acres of water sources and lakes, which were previously part of the thermal plant. Due to the closure of the plant, in the vacant power colony spread over an area of 280 acres, the officers and employees of the entire civil and police line will get a residential facility. Bathinda residents have got relief from the pollution being spread on behalf of this coal power plant. The Finance Minister said that Bathinda thermal plant was established in 1974. It was the oldest plant in Punjab, which had crossed its 25-year original. According to the Central Electricity Agency (CEA) guidelines, all non-viable thermal plants, which have completed 25 years of life, are to be closed.
