KOLKATA: One more person has been booked in connection with the recent murder of three Trinamool Congress leaders at Canning in West Bengal's South 24 Parganas district.
One of the six suspects identified in the FIR for the July 7 murders of Bhutnath Pramanik and Jhantu Halder, two local Trinamool Congress booth presidents, and local Trinamool Congress panchayat member Swapan Majhi was arrested late on Tuesday night.
The other five people listed in the FIR, including the primary suspect Rafiqul, are still at large. This is the second arrest related to this case.
Aftafuddin was previously detained by police on July 9 despite not being included in the FIR. It was found that Aftafuddin served as the assailants' guide during the murder process, persistently followed the victims on the day of the crime, and continuously informed the killers of the victims' whereabouts.
Two theories have emerged regarding the killings of the three local Trinamool Congress leaders as on date. The first assumption is that the victim panchayat member Swapan Majhi and the main suspect, Rafiqul, who is an old charge-sheeter and was also involved in the local drug trade, have a history of animosity.
Trinamool would not be responsible for FIRs against Mahua Moitra.
