KOLKATA: The Trinamool Congress leadership made it plain on Thursday that it will not accept responsibility for the FIRs filed against party Lok Sabha member Mahua Moitra as a result of her recent comments about Goddess Kali, which have caused enormous controversy.

In a statement on behalf of the party, veteran Trinamool Congress leader and three-time Lok Sabha representative Saugata Roy stated that Moitra is responsible for handling the FIRs, not the party.

The movie "Kaali" has a poster, which the TMC party does not approve of since it is offensive to us. We also disagree with Mahua Moitra's comments on the subject. It's the official stance of our party. Our party respects all religions and is secular. Mahua Moitra is responsible for handling the FIRs in this case. They have no right to talk about anything else till the BJP takes action against Nupur Sharma for her anti-Prophet remarks, the statement said.

Partha Chatterjee, secretary-general of the Trinamool Congress and minister of commerce and industry for West Bengal, has also assured the media that the party will not be held accountable for Moitra's views because they are her own.
