New Delhi: Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on Wednesday announced that around 5,000 students from Romania and Moldova will be brought back to India in the next two days amid the Ukraine crisis. Scindia, who arrived in Romania on Wednesday morning, said at a virtual press conference, "Students have had a lot of problems. In this mission, our goal is to send back home Indians stranded due to the Ukraine-Russia crisis."

Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla on Tuesday said around 8,000 Indians, mainly students, were stranded in Ukraine. According to the latest update, 208 people have been dropped from the plane in Delhi. The central government on Monday decided that Union ministers Hardeep Puri, Jyotiraditya Scindia, Kiren Rijiju and V K Singh will reach Ukraine's neighbouring countries to coordinate the evacuation mission and help bring back the students.

Scindia has been instructed to make efforts to evacuate people from Romania and Moldova. On this, Scindia pointed out that the evacuation plan has been divided into four parts – bringing the students to the border, assisting them in crossing, bringing them to the climbing point for the airport and finally taking them safely to India. Scindia said, "We also met the Prime Minister of Romania and thanked him for his help. I thank all those who are making all sorts of arrangements for our students.''
