Bhubaneshwar: Many questions remain about the doctor's handwriting. The Odisha High Court has ordered that doctors should write medicine and prescriptions in the capital letter itself. During the hearing, Judge SK Panigrahi said that doctors working in government or private or other medical set-ups should write the name of medicine in big letters so that it can be read.

The Odisha High Court has given this order during the hearing of a bail petition. This bail application was filed by a petitioner for the care of his ailing wife. During his petition, the petitioner presented his wife's medical record in the court. The court found that it is very difficult to read medical records and it is beyond the comprehension of common people. The Odisha High Court said that the unreadable handwriting of doctors creates needless trouble for patients, pharmacists, police, prosecutors, justices, who have to grapple with such medical reports.

The court said that doctors should write leaflets, OPD slip, post mortem report legible and completely clear. Justice SK Panigrahi said that the court feels that all doctors need to take a step and write medicine and prescriptions in legible and capital letters. In the digital age, there are many options to write the prescriptions cleanly, this will make the treatment more patient friendly.
