The DMK chief accused the BJP of acting as if it was the sole custodian of Hinduism. Mr. Stalin said the DMK was not against any religion or caste and its main role was to protect social harmony. Recently K. Veeramani, leader of Dravidian social movement DK, which is supporting the DMK-led alliance, said that if mobile phones had existed during the era of Lord Krishna, then he would have video-filmed the alleged perpetrators of the Pollachi sexual abuse case.

Linking the Hindu god with the Pollachi sex scandal infuriated many in Tamil Nadu. The police have lodged a complaint against Veeramani. There have been social media messages recalling Stalin's derisive remarks about Hindu marriage customs while attending a Muslim wedding.

The Opposition leaders in the Tamil Nadu Assembly, Mr. Stalin said Prime Minister Narendra Modi was lending his support to the AIADMK government in the state. According to him, the moment Mr. Modi is defeated in the upcoming Lok Sabha election, the AIADMK government would also go.
