Guwahati: More than 60 cadres who have surrendered in the recent past will ceremonially lay down arms on December 21. Sustained action by the security forces has led to arrests and surrender of armed cadres including the senior leadership of various militants outfits including the ULFA(I) and DNLA. A senior official said that a ceremony is planned for December 21 where more than 60 cadres will surrender.

 Drishti Rajkhowa, the former deputy commander-in-chief of the banned United Liberation Front of Asom (Independent) will also take part in the ceremony. These cadres belong to the United Liberation Front of Asom (Independent) and Dimasa National Liberation Army (DNLA). “There may be some cadres of other outfits as well,” the official said.The function will be organised at Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra in Guwahati.

Earlier in January, more than  600 cadres of eight militant groups in Assam, who had surrendered over the last few years, ceremonially laid down their arms in Guwahati. According to police data, there were 50 cadres of ULFA-I, eight of NDFB, six of KLO, 13 of RNLF, one of CPI-Maoist, 87 of NSLA, 178 of ADF and 301 of NLFB.
