Overnight Ukrainian air defences eliminate 18 of 24 Russian drones

Kiyv: In a pre-dawn attack on Thursday, Russia launched 24 kamikaze drones, but Ukrainian air defences claimed to have shot down 18 of them.

The Kyiv city administration issued a statement claiming that all drones and missiles that had been used to target the Ukrainian capital for the third time in four days had been destroyed.

The administration declared that "the Russians have attacked Kyiv using Shahed loitering munitions and missiles, probably of the ballistic variety. Air defences destroyed 12 of the 15 Shahed kamikaze drones that were fired at the Black Sea coastal city of Odesa, while three others struck a university compound. According to the military command for southern Ukraine, there were no casualties.

Since October of last year, Russia has been regularly bombarding Ukraine and attacking a range of targets. Less than 24 hours after Kyiv claimed 21 people died in a Russian strike on the city of Kherson, the most recent explosions were reported.

 

In response to what it described as a Ukrainian "terrorist" assassination attempt, Russia announced on Wednesday that it had shot down two drones at President Vladimir Putin's Kremlin residence.

Ukraine insisted it had "nothing to do" with the alleged attack and suggested Moscow "staged" it, while the US cautioned against jumping to conclusions and advised taking the report with a "shaker of salt."

On a visit to Finland, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky declared, "We do not attack Putin or Moscow."We protect our towns and cities. The same day, Kiev reported that 21 people had been killed by Russian airstrikes in the Kherson region of southern Ukraine, including attacks on a grocery store and a train station.

Following a string of significant sabotage attacks leading up to May 9 celebrations for the nation's most significant holiday, which commemorates the Soviet victory over the Nazis, Russia revealed the drone incident.

The Kremlin reported that the Kyiv regime attempted to use unmanned aerial vehicles to attack the President of the Russian Federation's residence in the Kremlin last night.

The Kremlin said in a statement that "two unmanned vehicles were aimed at the Kremlin. the devices were put out of action."
