Ahead of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, All India Majlis Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) President Asaduddin Owaisi will commence a 3-day tour of Uttar Pradesh from Ayodhya from Tuesday, September, 7. From there, he will travel to Sultanpur and Barabanki as well, ending his tour on 9 September.

AIMIM state president said Owaisi would visit the samadhi of 18th century Sufi saint Sheikh Alam Makhdoom Jada at Rudauli in Ayodhya district and hold a public meeting around the dargah today. Public meetings in Sultanpur and Barabanki respectively.

Athar Hussain, secretary of the Indo-Islamic Cultural Foundation said: “Rudauli is a constituency from where Muslim candidates can easily win, but in the last two elections there was a split of votes as the BSP fielded Muslim candidates against SP MLA Rushdie Mian. Now Owaisi will contest the coming elections. One can try to do the same.

Although Barabanki is near Lucknow, where Owaisi’s flight will land, the AIMIM chief beginning his tour from Ayodhya is clearly an indication of him doing politics his own way, one source told said ThePrint, adding that Owaisi “understands the significance of the word ‘Ayodhya’ in UP politics”.
