DHAKA: Obaidul Quader, Bangladesh's Minister of Road Transport and Bridges, announced that the country's largest Padma bridge will open to traffic in June of this year. He made the statements at a discussion in Dhaka about the project's progress.

The whole work on the huge multipurpose road-rail bridge nicknamed the "Dream Padma Bridge of Bangladesh" is already 92 percent complete, according to the Minister. The major bridge's construction is 97 percent complete, he said.

The Minister said, the gas pipeline installation work is 99 percent complete, and the 400 KVA electricity lines are 79% complete. The Padma multipurpose bridge is about 40 kilometres southwest of Dhaka, Bangladesh's capital.

China Railway Major Bridge Engineering Group Co, Ltd is in charge of the massive infrastructure project, which includes a 6.15-kilometer-long main bridge (MBEC). It is Bangladesh's largest and most difficult infrastructure project to date. The Padma River bridge, which connects Bangladesh's northeastern and southern regions, is also a significant component of a planned trans-Asian railway network. The bridge's primary construction work was inaugurated by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in December 2015.
