ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Military Intensifies Operations in Balochistan After Deadly Insurgent Attacks:
Pakistan's military has initiated a series of intelligence-driven operations in the southwestern province of Balochistan following a spate of insurgent attacks that claimed the lives of over 50 people this week.
In a statement issued on Friday, the army reported that five insurgents were killed and three others injured during these operations. The military's efforts are aimed at bringing all those responsible for the recent violence to justice.
Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif condemned the attacks, highlighting their intent to disrupt the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), a multi-billion-dollar initiative aimed at developing infrastructure across Pakistan as part of China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). Beijing also strongly condemned the violence.
Ethnic Baloch insurgents launched coordinated attacks earlier this week, targeting both civilian and military sites across the province. In response, the army has intensified its operations, resulting in the deaths of 21 militants.
The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) has claimed responsibility for one of the most severe attacks in recent years, as it continues its push for the secession of Balochistan, a region rich in resources and home to significant China-led projects, including a deep-water port and a gold and copper mine.
Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif condemned the attacks, stating that they were intended to undermine the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), a multi-billion-dollar initiative aimed at developing infrastructure in Pakistan as part of China's Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). The attacks have also drawn condemnation from Beijing.
The military has vowed to continue its operations until all those responsible for these heinous acts are brought to justice.
