ISLAMABAD – Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan stated on Monday that he is not "anti-American" and that he wants greater ties with the US based on mutual respect, ET reported.

During an interactive question-and-answer session with the people, the premier emphasised that he has no ill will toward the United States, but rather seeks a mutual partnership with the superpower that is free of meddling in internal issues that is detrimental to the national interest. "I am not anti-American or anti-any country, but we can disagree on certain issues. I want friendship between the two countries, which entails mutual respect "Khan stated his opinion.

"What I am against is when a country sends an order to another country and you fight their war, hear 'do more' while losing your people and suffering devastation in your country, and in the end does not even say thank you," Khan added.

The Prime Minister's remarks pertained to the ruling party's claims that foreign powers supported the vote of no confidence in him in the National Assembly (NA). Khan responded to questions by saying that US intervention would sour relations between the two countries.

"Death is preferable to enslavement to another country," Khan remarked, blaming the united Opposition leaders for "indulging foreign powers' evil habits."  The prime minister also accused the opposition of accepting foreign funding to buy MPs for the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). He also claimed that the Opposition utilised public funds to gain support in the Lower House.
