Noor-ul-Haq Qadri, Pakistan's Federal Minister for Religious and Minority Affairs, has written to Prime Minister Imran Khan, demanding him to ban the 'Aurat March' across the country, according to reports.

Last year, when reported banners and recordings of protestors singing 'objectionable sentiments' surfaced on social media, the Aurat March in Pakistan provoked uproar. According to the report, the organisers labelled the videos as phoney and anti-March propaganda.

According to reports, in his letter to Khan, Qadri requested that March 8 be designated as 'International Hijab Day,' rather than Aurat March.  Qadri further stated that no one should be allowed to insult Islamic rites, morals, or the wearing of hijab on Women's Day by holding an Aurat March or any other event. Every year on March 8, the globe commemorates 'Women's Day,' while in Pakistan, women activists and other organisations refer to the day as Aurat March.

The Aurat March has sparked debate since its start because of its slogans and banners. The march's organisers have declared unequivocally that their goal is to educate women about their rights, as well as to condemn the country's fast escalating sexual and domestic abuse, according to the newspaper.
