Islamabad: There are fierce protests in Pakistan these days regarding terrorism. The echoes of these demonstrations are being heard even in Parliament. Terrorism has spread so much in the neighboring country that even the present Shahbaz Sharif government itself has accepted that the fear of terrorism is increasing in their country. A minister in the Shahbaz government admitted in a packed Parliament on Wednesday (October 19) that terrorism is spreading in his country, not extremism.

In fact, terrorists had created a ruckus in the Swat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. Discussion was held on this in the Pakistan Parliament on Wednesday. During the Parliament session, MPs expressed concern over the deteriorating situation in Swat. Citizens in Swat have taken to the streets in recent days to protest the escalating violence.

In a packed parliament, Pakistan's Climate Change Minister Sherry Rehman admitted that 'What is happening in Pakistan is not insurgency or extremism, but it is terrorism.' He compared the situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa district with that of neighbouring Afghanistan. The PP senator said that violent elements who 'hide their nefarious designs behind religion' are to blame. He said, 'Sorry, but this is just a war of power. This is not a fight of religion, and have the courage to say it.'
