Al Qaeda terrorists arrested for financial assistance, runs NGO in Pakistan

Peshawar: In Pakistan, the local head of an international NGO accused of raising large sums of money in the name of bailout and transporting it to al-Qaeda terrorists has been arrested. The arrest has been made under the Anti Terrorism Act. The newspaper 'Don' quoted a top official of the Department of Counter Terrorism (CTD) as saying.

The accused is named as Ali Nawaz, the local head of an NGO called Human Consortium International. The official said Ali is accused of raising funds in the name of bailout and delivering it to al-Qaida. The accused Nawaz was produced before an anti-terror court on Saturday. The court remanded him to three days judicial custody of the CTD for questioning.

More recently, 23 cases of terror funding were registered against Jamaat ud Dawa chief Hafiz Saeed and 12 of his associates. Pakistan's Counter Terrorism Department had said that cases have been registered against them for using five trusts for terror funding. The Jamaat-ud-Dawa and Falah-e-Insaniyat Foundation, which is associated with Lashkar-e-Taiba, have also been targeted.
