New Delhi: Pakistan's attitude towards India seems to be softening. Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif recently said the two neighbors should live in peace and focus on progress. However, Shehbaz did not fail to re-mention the Kashmir issue and said that human rights violations in Kashmir should stop. After publishing an article praising Prime Minister Modi, the Pakistani media has now instructed the Shehbaz Sharif government that Pakistan should take care of its home by putting the issue of Kashmir on the back burner.
An opinion article has been published by Pakistani journalist Kamran Yusuf in which he is seen advising Pakistan on Kashmir. Yusuf recently met retired General Qamar Javed Bajwa. In this meeting, he came to know many things about India-Pakistan relations which were not yet in the public domain. In the article, Joseph mentions all those things. In the article, he revealed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was scheduled to visit Pakistan in April 2021 in an attempt to open a new chapter of good relations between the two countries.
He wrote, 'There were several rounds of backchannel talks between the then DG ISI Lt Gen Faiz Hameed and India's National Security Advisor Ajit Doval after which the Prime Minister's visit to Pakistan was planned. It was because of the negotiation effort that the ceasefire agreement between the two countries was renewed in February 2021 along the Line of Control in the disputed Kashmir region. The announcement was surprising as no formal talks were taking place between the two countries. After many years both countries issued simultaneous statements in Islamabad and New Delhi.' Yusuf wrote- In August 2019, India unilaterally abolished the status of the special state of Jammu and Kashmir, after which the tension between the two countries increased a lot. In response, Pakistan downgraded diplomatic relations and suspended bilateral trade with India. In such a situation, the announcement of a ceasefire between the two countries was surprising. The two countries were to resume trade ties in March as part of confidence-building measures following the renewal of the ceasefire. And after this, a surprise visit of Prime Minister Modi to Pakistan was scheduled.'
