Islamabad: Pakistan is going through a severe financial crisis these days. On the one hand, Pakistan, which became an Islamic country after separating from India in 1947, is not able to produce enough food for its people, on the other hand, the growing population of donkeys there remains a matter of concern. Now Pakistan is going to resort to these donkeys to improve its economic condition. Pakistan has decided to sell these donkeys to China.

In fact, according to the Pakistan Economic Survey (PES), the number of donkeys in the country has increased from 5.7 million to 5.8 million in the year 2022-23. According to the survey, there were 5.5 million donkeys in Pakistan in the year 2019-20, while in 2020-21 there were 5.6 million donkeys. In terms of donkey population in the world, Pakistan is third, while China is in the first place. Earlier also, China had approached Pakistan for import of donkeys. The reason behind this was that there is so much demand in China. According to the report published in Dawn in 2022, China was looking to import donkeys and dogs from other countries due to increased local demand and reduced production in the country.

China requires donkeys to get gelatin from their skin. There it is used to manufacture traditional Chinese medicines. For this, after killing donkeys in China, their skins are boiled. According to a report in the Guardian in 2019, gelatin has properties that boost the human immune system. According to officials, in 2022, China had shown interest in importing donkeys and dogs from Pakistan.
