GOA: Upping the ante of the Goa's Capital Panaji's sustainable development goals, the government has decided to declare capital city  'Solar City' by generating 88 MW solar power in next two years, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said on Friday, March 17.

The Chief Minister said that in the next two years, 88 megawatt solar power can be generated in Panaji by installing solar power generating units. "To accomplish this, we need the public's assistance. Solar panels can be installed on the rooftops of commercial, government, and residential structures "he said.

"Only with the public's support will we be successful. The federal government will provide a 40% subsidy, and the state will contribute 10%. To turn Panaji into a solar city, our concerned departments have taken the initiative "said he.

He said that by putting in solar power generating units, the city could generate 88 MW of solar power over the course of the following two years.

Casinos and other business buildings without rooftop solar power generation capabilities, according to Sawant, can install solar power generation panels anywhere else, with the generated electricity being sent to the grid.

He emphasised once more how crucial it is for the general population to support the choice before Panaji may be powered entirely by solar energy. In addition, we are raising awareness of this programme, said Chief Minister Sawant.
