Japan started Friday with a chance to keep their qualifying hopes alive if they defeated Vanuatu. Japan is second on the four-team table with six points after their first four games.

But that didn't happen; instead, Vanuatu won their first match of the competition thanks to a commanding all-around performance from Nalin Nipiko, who took four wickets and scored an unbeaten 74 off just 50 balls.

The West Indies and the United States will co-host the 2024 T20 World Cup, which will feature 20 teams. For the first round, the teams will be split into four groups of five each, with the top two teams from each group moving on to the Super 8 stage.

The top two teams from each group advance to the semi-finals as the Super 8 teams are divided into two groups of four each.
