Passport Seva Diwas today, External Affairs Minister Jaishankar says thanks to passport officials

New Delhi: Passport Seva Diwas is celebrated every year on June 24. In the same vein, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar addressed passport officials today. In the meantime, he said that passports are more easily available in today's world. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said this can be done more effectively in the Indian global work to protect it.

He said empowering this important citizen-centric service will always be a major priority for the Ministry of External Affairs and its allies. External Affairs Minister Dr. S Jaishankar thanked the officials who issued passports in India and abroad on Passport Seva Diwas. He said that even during the epidemic, passport officers are working hard and providing their services. Continuous work is being done to further ease passport rules and procedures, expand passport outreach using technology and apps and reduce the burden of compliance on the average citizen.

State that till 1966, the process of issuing passports was regulated by administrative instructions. The powers for issuing passports were exercised by the Government based on Article 73 read with List-I, Item No. 19 of the Seventh Schedule of the Constitution of India. However, Parliament was not in the form of a session, so the government promulgated the Passport Ordinance 1967 and six months later replaced it with the present Passport Act, 1967, which was done from June 24, 1967.
