Cricket Australia (CA) announced on Friday that regular Test captain Pat Cummins has been permitted to return home to New South Wales after missing the second Ashes Test in Adelaide.

On the eve of the ongoing Adelaide Test, Cummins was ruled out after being deemed a close contact of a COVID-19 positive person while dining with fellow New South Wales and Adelaide Strikers fast bowler Harry Conway at Little Hunter Steakhouse.

Pat Cummins has been granted permission to return to NSW by SA Health. "Under the plan approved by SA Health, he will self-drive from isolation and then travel a single charter flight with the proper PPE and hygiene controls," CA said in a statement. "Cricket Australia will continue to work with SA Health to ensure that the plan is followed." In NSW, he will continue to adhere to all isolation rules. On Thursday, Cummins gave a negative test result," the statement continued.

The news will come as a relief to the Australian team, who had thought Cummins might be locked up in a hotel room for the next seven days, especially with the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne set to begin on December 26.
