Madhya Pradesh: Criminal Law Amendment Bill passed in Assembly, cross voting by two BJP MLAs

Bhopal: Kamal Nath government brought the Criminal Law Amendment Bill in the Assembly on Wednesday. There was a division of votes for it in the Assembly. The Congress had 122 votes in favour and the bill was passed by a majority. Two BJP MLAs cross-voted and surprised everyone. BJP MLA Narayan Tripathi and Sharad Kaul not only made cross voting but also made statements in support of CM Kamal Nath.

Both the BJP MLAs have termed Kamal Nath as a Vikas Purusha and expressed their support. Under this bill, the person convicted can be punished up to 3 years. Samajwadi Party (SP) MLA Sanjeev Singh Sanju demanded a division of votes. BSP MLA Sanjeev Kushwah demanded a division of votes to get the MLA passed. In fact, the BJP wanted the bill to be passed unanimously.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Kamal Nath has said that if the BJP wants to move a no-confidence motion in the House, it will come up. In Karnataka, political turmoil has escalated in Madhya Pradesh after the collapse of the Kumaraswamy government. Kamal Nath made this statement in this perspective. Pointing to his MLAs in the House, Kamal Nath said, "Not a single MLA of ours is for sale. The Kamal Nath government will last for a full five years."
