The synergistic impact of COVID-19 on people with non-communicable diseases (NCDs) like diabetes in low and middle-income countries such as India have been assessed by the Scientists and the ongoing pandemic is a more dangerous time for them than ever. The people with NCDs are more vulnerable to catching and dying from COVID-19, while their exposure to NCD risk factors such as substance abuse, social isolation and unhealthy diets has increased during the pandemic.

The Manipal Academy of Higher Education in Karnataka, found that COVID-19 affected the essential public health services which people with NCDs highly rely on to manage their health conditions.In low and middle-income countries such as Brazil, India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Pakistan and Nigeria almost 50 studies have been made. Another study from the University of New South Wales (UNSW) in Australia, says global data showed COVID-19-related deaths were very high among people with NCDs. The NCD patients are more vulnerable to getting infected with COVID-19 because of the syndemic interaction between biological and socio-ecological factors. 

COVID-19 reinfection happens, not common, Rarely

A series of strategies for healthcare stockholders such as decision-makers, policymakers and frontline health workers to manage the people with NCD in a better way amidst the ongoing pandemic is needed. The policymakers should work on it and find a suitable solution. The research further said governments should assure effective social and economic support for the people with NCDs who are vulnerable to catching COVID-19, on top priority the indigenous, rural, and refugee communities, as well as people with severe mental illness.
