Agartala: Tripura CM Biplab Kumar Deb says that the increase in the consumption of fish in the state is a sign that the income of the people has increased. Let us inform you that the consumption of fish in Tripura has increased to 25.53 per cent in the financial year 2020-21, as compared to 24.96 per cent in the year 2017-18. At present, 92,500 metric tonnes of fish are being consumed annually in the state. The per capita fish consumption in Tripura is 25 kg against the national average of 18 kg. About 23 per cent of the total consumption comes from outside the state.

In the program organized by the Department of Fisheries, Biplab Deb has said 'The consumption of fish is increasing in the state, which means that the income of the people has increased and poverty is decreasing.' Fisheries Minister Mevar Kumar Jamatia was also present in the program. Deb said that his government is working for the welfare of fish farmers. He has said 'In Tripura, a survey was conducted to find out the number of fish farmers and dry fish traders. At present, there are 7,482 fish farmers and dry fish traders in the state. The government plans to give loans to 3,000 of them in the coming three years.'

CM Deb also criticized the previous governments for not doing anything to develop fisheries and people related to this sector in the state. Taking a dig at the erstwhile CPIM regime, he said that the slogans of "Zindabad and Murdabad" will not increase fish production in the state, only scientific methods will boost the sector.
