Coimbatore, Chennai: Recently the life-size statue of social reformer EV Ramasamy 'Periyar' was painted with saffron on Friday in the Sundarpuram area of Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu. News has been received that the youth of a Hinduist organization has also surrendered in this matter. He was arrested by the police. Talking about the matter, the police said that the young man (21) said in his statement that he painted the idol with saffron in protest against the insult of the Hindu god Muruga in the YouTube channel "Karuppar Koottam".

The police also said that he was produced before a court from where he has been sent to judicial custody. In this case, Chief Minister K.K. Palaniswamy has said about taking strict action. Yesterday, he told reporters in Erode, "Strict action will be taken as per law. I have instructed the police to take appropriate action and bring the culprits under the grip of law." As soon as this incident came to know, DMK, MDMK, and VCK activists started protest gave. After that, the ruling AIADMK and the main opposition DMK termed the incident as condemnable. In this case, the police said that a case has been registered against Arun Krishnan, the convenor of the Coimbatore South District of the Indian Army. In the context of the arrest of two people, the incident of statue deformation by mischievous elements has come to light. The two men are linked to a Tamil video channel and its subject matter is allegedly against Hindu beliefs. The statue was defaced in the early hours, causing tension and police personnel were deployed there.

The followers of Periyar have cleared the color with a part of the statue with the help of the police. senior AIADMK leader and Fisheries Minister D. Jayakumar said that such petty acts are not acceptable. It is a punishable offense. DMK President M.K. Stalin said that Periyar also did commendable work for the "people of the lower classes", hence he is called' Periyar '(great person). MDMK chief Vaiko demanded that the 'government' should work with 'responsibility' and take action. '
