Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh announced a scheme for 9.50 lakh farmers in his state. He has planned to give the benefit of health insurance to the family of farmers under the 'Ayushman Bharat Sarbat Sehat Bima Yojana' for the year 2020-21, while last year 5 lakh farmers were included in this scheme.

The scheme was started by the state government on August 20, 2019, on the birthday of former PM Rajiv Gandhi. During the year 2019-20, a plan has been made to bring 45 lakh families under this scheme which proved very helpful to the people of Punjab, especially during the Corona crisis. The state government has also ensured rates for treatment of corona in hospitals listed under 'Ayushman Bharat Sarbat Health Insurance Scheme'.

CM said that under this health insurance plan, beneficiary heart operations, cancer treatment, joint replacement and accident cases, etc. are covered. In addition, up to Rs 5 lakh can be treated in 546 listed hospitals and 208 government hospitals for 1396 diseases, including treatment of major operations. Also, during the first year of this scheme 5 lakh farmers came under its purview. Those who have been declared eligible by the Mandi Board on the basis of 'J' forms issued in the year 2015. The entire premium of the farmer's insurance will be paid by the mandi board.
