Government oil companies have not made any changes in the price of petrol and diesel today. Diesel and petrol rates in Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai and Kolkata remain the same. However, on July 3, the Delhi Government had cut the rate of diesel by Rs 8.36, making the diesel rate in Delhi to Rs 73.56 per liter in the market.
Today, the price of petrol in Delhi is running Rs 80.43 per liter. The price of diesel is being Rs 73.56 per liter. According to information received from the IOCL website, the price of one liter of petrol in Kolkata, Mumbai and Chennai is being Rs 82.05, 87.19 and 83.63 per liter respectively. Talking about diesel, then its rates in these metros are 77.06, 80.11 and 78.86 respectively.
There is a change in the prices of petrol and diesel every morning at 6 am. The new rates are applicable from 6 am. After adding excise duty, dealer commission and other things to the rates of petrol and diesel, its rate almost gets doubled. Along with the foreign exchange rate, the prices of petrol and diesel change every day, depending on what the prices of crude are in the international market. Based on these standards, the oil companies do the work of fixing the petrol price and diesel price daily. However, the dealers are the people running the petrol pumps. They sell petrol at retail prices after adding taxes and their own margins to the last of the consumers. This cost is also added to the petrol price and diesel price.
