Petrol unchanged while Diesel Prices hiked…read detail inside

New Delhi: On Friday (April 26), Petrol price was unchanged while diesel prices were hiked by up to 8 paise in major cities of the country. In the national capital Delhi, petrol was retailing at Rs 73.02 per litre, no change compared to Thursday while diesel became costlier by 7 paise to Rs 66.61 a litre. To be noted that the retail fuel prices in Delhi are the cheapest among all metros and most state capitals due to lower taxes. In Mumbai, citizens have to pay Rs 78.59 for a litre of petrol, no change compared to Thursday's price while diesel costs Rs 69.72 per litre, 7 paise more than yesterday, as per data available with Indian Oil Corp website.

Here it is to be noted that similarly, in Chennai, petrol and diesel are selling for Rs 75.79 a litre and Rs 70.34 per litre, 0 paise and 8 paise more than yesterday’s prices respectively. People in Kolkata have to shell out Rs 75.04 for a litre of petrol while diesel retailed at Rs 68.35 per litre as against Rs 68.28  yesterday. In Noida, petrol was priced at Rs 72.32 and diesel was retailing at Rs 65.66, 6 paise more than yesterday's price. In Gurugram, petrol, diesel prices increased by 0 paise and 6 paise respectively to Rs 72.86 and Rs 65.70 respectively.

It is worth mentioning here is that the price of petrol and diesel prices in the country is dependent on the global crude prices and the rupee-US dollar exchange rate as India imports 80 per cent of its crude requirements. On Friday, the rupee was trading at 70.14 against the US dollar, up 11 paise as compared to Thursday's closing price. Oil prices dipped on Friday on hopes that producer club OPEC will soon raise output to make up for a decline in exports from Iran following a tightening of sanctions on Tehran by the United States. Despite this, oil markets remain tight amid supply disruptions and rising geopolitical concerns especially over the tensions between the United States and Iran, analysts said. Brent crude futures were at $74.16 per barrel as of 8:35 am, down 19 cents, or 0.3 per cent, from Thursday's closing price.
