KIEV: A Ukrainian zoo has requested that authorities build a humanitarian corridor to give food and evacuate animals, as several of them have perished as a result of hunger and cold.

Mykhailo Pinchuk, owner of Demidov's Zoo XII Months, wrote on Facebook on Friday: "Please assist us in establishing green corridors, as well as delivering food and diesel. Green corridors are required for the delivery of humanitarian aid and the evacuation of transportable animals." According to Ukrayinska Pravda, animals with frost tolerance in outside cages have perished of hunger, while exotic species in need of heat have died of the cold. According to the owner, the park has no electricity or gas, and diesel supplies are severely depleted.

"Green corridors are required to bring in diesel, heat, and feed them. We can't even put rhinos and giraffes to sleep since we don't have the drugs to do so. Green corridors must be negotiated "He was adamant. Demidov is 46 kilometres from Kiev, Ukraine's capital.
