Guwahati: Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said, "According to an investigation we have found that the Islamic organization Popular Front of India is involved in various illegal activities in the state. Since the state government cannot ban any organisation, we have Sent a report to the Center with evidence. To ban this group." "We are sure that the group will be banned immediately by the central government," the chief minister said.

The Chief Minister also revealed among the voters that there is enough evidence against the Popular Front of India to prove that the terrorist organization is involved in several unconstitutional activities in the state. As per reports, the Assam Police has arrested several people associated with the extremist group and registered cases against the Popular Front of India.

Earlier, according to the Assam government, the violence during the eviction drive at Garukhuti in Darrang district was instigated by the Popular Front of India. Two people lost their lives in the violence that broke out during the eviction, while there are reports of many injured.
