The Centre on told the Supreme Court that a final decision on whether to conduct CBSE and CISCE class 12 board exams will be taken within the next two days. The Supreme Court on Monday adjourned to Thursday (4 June)  the Public interest litigation (PIL) on the XII board examination of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and Council for Indian School Certificate Examination (ISCE) on a request by Attorney General K K Venugopal to give two days' time to take the decision.

 A Bench of Justices A M Khanwilkar and Dinesh Maheshwari took on record the Attorney General's plea that "the competent authorities are examining all aspects of the matter and are likely to take its principle decision, which would be placed before the court on that date.

It was hearing a petition by Supreme Court advocate Mamta Sharma, seeking cancellation of Class XII board exams amid the Covid-19 pandemic as also done last year, noting that the CBSE has already cancelled Class X exam on this ground. "You are free to take whatever decision. But there is a hope expressed by the petitioner that the police adopted last year can be followed," the Bench observed, adding that "if government is departing from last year's decision, then give tangible reasons."
