An international airlines operating in Pakistan due to their pilot licensing issue and failure in  meeting the international standards formulated by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) may face a ban from flying to 188 countries , a media report said on Sunday. The European Union and UK has already banned the Pakistan's flag carrier Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) due to the pilot license scam.

The Pakistan's Federal Minister for Aviation, Ghulam Sarwar Khan, had revealed in August that 262 pilots including 141 of the PIA held fake credentials. This revelations exposed the fake license into the light.  The ICAO has approved a mechanism to deal with the Significant Safety Concerns (SSCs) to its member states in the 12th meeting of its 179th session. The ICAO has issued a serious warning to the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (PCAA) over the safety concerns. The ICAO stated that Pakistan's PCAA had failed to meet the international standards regarding the personnel licensing and training in relation to the licensing process for pilot, stated in the letter dated November 3.

Pakistan Airlines Pilots Association (Palpa) spokesperson said: "This will have serious consequences and could be a total disaster for Pakistan's aviation industry. Palpa had been raising this issue since June 2020 but unfortunately it was neglected by the authorities concerned. Palpa had forwarded several options to revamp the system in accordance with the international practices and also given a presentation". PALPA looks for PM Imran's intervention to resolve the issue.
