New Delhi - India and Germany intend to broaden their trilateral development partnership projects, concentrating on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in developing nations throughout Asia, Africa, and the Indo-Pacific region, a report said on Friday.

"The objective would be to build on individual strengths and experiences in development cooperation and offer sustainable, viable and inclusive projects to third countries in addressing development challenges and achieving SDGs and SDG related climate targets, including through multilateral institutions where India and Germany are members, such as the International Solar Alliance (ISA)," the two countries said in a Joint Declaration of Intent in May 2022.

The declaration also highlights both nations' aspirations to carry out capacity-building projects in priority industries that both parties agree upon, as well as to investigate co-financing possibilities and cutting-edge collaboration models for collaborative projects in other countries.

As per reports, discussions are currently taking place to broaden this agreement to include Mozambique. This comes after S. Jaishankar, the minister of external affairs, finished his first trip to the nation in April.

According to the Indian Embassy in Mozambique, "India has extended support to Mozambique in diverse areas - provision of drinking water, improving power generation and distribution, improving agricultural productivity, renovating irrigation infrastructure, creating an information technology park, constructing a solar cell assembly plant, renovating road networks, building housing units and railway equipment."

In 2010, India gave Mozambique a USD 500 million Line of Credit for development assistance, which covered things like education, immediate humanitarian help, and medical supplies.

Despite some prior attempts at building trilateral partnerships, most notably the Asia-Africa Growth Corridor (AAGC) with Japan, facing delays, this planned expansion of the trilateral development partnership signifies encouraging progress for India's objectives in development diplomacy.

India has also begun trilateral development cooperation with the UK and established a minilateral group with France and the UAE to foster cooperation on topics like food security, circular economy, and climate change.
